R2 PRT: Health Care Provider Status - Wording/action:
(26) APhA-ASP strongly encourages federal and state legislative bodies to recognize pharmacists as health-care providers.
Reasons for the Action(s) / Pros and Cons:
This is not currently a resolution that is on the books. Resolution 1999.2 encourages recognition under HCFA which is a division of DHHR that deals with Medicare/Medicaid. This does not recognize pharmacists as health care provider’s across the board. In West Virginia, specifically, pharmacists are not covered under the Medical Liability act because they are not recognized as health care providers.
