(25) APhA-ASP supports a pharmacist’s role to counsel on each new prescription that is dispensed in the community setting.
Reasons for the Action(s) / Pros and Cons:
The basic function of a pharmacist is to educate each patient about the medication he or she is taking. The simplest and most effective way to ensure that this job is being done is for the pharmacist to counsel each patient on every new medication that is being dispensed and expressing the offer for future consultations as issues and questions arise.
