(21) APhA-ASP supports the financial supplementation of PGY2 residencies by the federal government.
Reasons for the Action(s) / Pros and Cons:
While PGY1 residency programs are currently funded by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, PGY2 residencies are solely supported by private institutions. The federal funding of PGY2 residencies would enable a larger amount and more varied types of specializing residencies to be founded across the US. This would in turn, release more well-qualified pharmacists into the profession.
