R2 PRT: Electronic Prescribing - Wording/action:
(15) APhA-ASP supports the use of electronic prescribing amongst all physicians to decrease tampering and poly-pharmacy use by patients.
Reasons for the Action(s) / Pros and Cons:
With the amount of tampered prescriptions rising, we feel that it would be beneficial for all physicians to use electronic prescribing. Also, more electronic prescribing would decrease patients taking each prescription to a different pharmacy. Unfortunately, the patient would have to know the pharmacy where they were going to get the prescription filled.
